# What is Fanmu
|
|
|
|
Fanmu is a **self-hosted media library**.
|
|
|
|
Your videos live on a WebDAV drive (OpenList included). Mount that drive in Fanmu and you can play in a browser, with danmaku on top.
|
|
|
|
## Why this exists
|
|
|
|
Watching a local or cloud file has one old problem: **no danmaku**.
|
|
|
|
DanDanPlay solved this for desktop: play a file from disk, get matching online danmaku. Fanmu does the same idea in a browser:
|
|
|
|
- Nothing to install on every machine
|
|
- Phone, tablet, TV browser all work
|
|
- Files stay in one place on the drive
|
|
|
|
## What it can do
|
|
|
|
- **Mount WebDAV** (OpenList uses its WebDAV endpoint)
|
|
- **Play video** in the browser; progress is saved
|
|
- **Danmaku**: matched from the open danmaku network; local XML as fallback
|
|
- **Library**: scan in files, posters, resume where you left off
|
|
- **Accounts**: each person has their own list and progress
|
|
|
|

Fanmu is not a plugin and does not need DanDanPlay running on your PC. It stands on its own: **video from your drive, danmaku from the web**.

- AI subtitles and summaries

- Cast, frame interpolation

The main path first: mount → find → play → danmaku → progress.
